Slight absence while I have been:

unpacking removal boxes;
cleaning a dirty house;
tending to sickly child;
re-assuming housewifely duties;
and most importantly, making a new friend.

Hello Lucy! This will be Lucy’s first experience of reading a blog. So let’s all say HI! Lucy is my new neighbour and she is wonderful. This is mostly because she has two boys the same ages as my two boys and because SHE HAS OFFERED TO BABYSIT. What more could I want in a neighbour?

When Lucy saw us coming to visit our newly purchased house she rushed out to invite us round for coffee. This was a whole new experience for me. Not being invited for coffee, but being welcomed to a new village by a ‘local’. Locals generally take a very dim view of new residents. Actually it turns out she is an ‘incomer’ too but I can pretend that she was acting as welcoming committee for the whole village.

This village is REALLY small. So small I am never going to mention it by name. Ever. And certainly not if I intend to say mean things about some of the inhabitants. And don’t get all sanctimonious on me, all villages have weirdos and I’m not going to let an opportunity to blog about them pass me by. It’s not like I have anything interesting to blog about personally.

Anyway, I have nothing mean to say about Lucy. She has helped me unpack, looked after my sick kids, we have shared birth stories (hers are way more nasty than mine) and postpartum stories (mine are way more nasty than hers) and she has kept me supplied with endless cups of coffee while I struggle though the days after approximately twelve (or thereabouts, I’ve lost count) nights of little or very broken sleep.

I warned Lucy that most of her personal details may well appear on the internet via this blog and she turned to me and (having worked previously in public relations) said, completely seriously, “there’s no such thing as bad publicity”. Now THAT’S the kind of girl I can be friends with.

Hi to Lucy. Well done for making friends with Ella. Now she won’t write anything nasty about you :-)

Glad to hear you’re getting your priorities right and not worrying about unpacking all those boxes!
