Despite the Indian summer we have been experiencing here the last couple of weeks, the blackberries in the field have been pretty poor. They looked like they would ripen nicely but in the end they didn’t amount to much.

So with autumn around the corner I sent the boys out into the fields to pick what little there was for supper. William came back with a sad face. ‘I couldn’t find any,’ he said dolefully.
‘So I see, William,’ I replied.
